Why Use Cloud Services For Data Backup

Do you have important data on your computer that you do not want to lose? Rather than just storing your data on a second hard drive, you should consider using a cloud service that can handle it for you. Here are some reasons why you should be backing that important data up to the cloud.

Cloud Services Offer Off-Site Backups

The 3-2-1 rule is commonly used to describe the ideal way that you should be backing up data that is important to you. This involves having 3 copies of the data, with 2 of them being on-site and 1 being off-site. If you are backing up your data to an external hard drive or second internal hard drive, like a RAID, you will technically only be backing up the data to 2 of the on-site locations. You need that third location that is off-site to ensure that your data is truly secure.

Why do you need an off-site backup? Think about what would happen if you had a house fire and your computer was damaged, or if someone were to break into your home and steal your computer. All your data is going to be destroyed or stolen, and you'll have no way to recover it because you only had local backups.

A cloud service is going to be the most convenient way to get the job done or having offsite backups. By uploading the data to the internet, the data will be saved at a data center far away from your home. In fact, it is likely backed up multiple times at this data center as well.

Cloud Service Data Can Be Accessed Anywhere

Ever been in a situation where you needed to access a file on your computer at home, but you were nowhere near your computer at the time? Your only option may be to physically go back to your computer to get the file that you need. When you use a cloud service for data backups, you should be able to access that information from anywhere, as long as you know your login information. Not only is your data going to be secure, but it will be accessible as well. This could be a huge perk to putting data in the cloud that you were not thinking about since it can offer more than just peace of mind that your files are not going to be lost.
